Chapter 9: Framed Picture
I peak into my phone it is 6 AM.
I better get up already.
I got up into my feet and walked over to my kitchen, specifically the sink.
I better get up already.
I got up into my feet and walked over to my kitchen, specifically the sink.
I fell asleep on the couch last night.
I washed my face and ran my wet hands over my loose hair to tame down a bit.
Boy, it is getting longer and I will need to get a cut soon.
6:03
I turned and started my coffee machine then walked up to my fridge. My fridge was almost empty except for a half box of eggs, some cheese, and the container Hayat Teyze* sent with Luka the other day.
I opened to container and sniffed it "Can a person ingest a 4 days old pastries?!"
"Oh well." I shrugged as I popped a small piece into my mouth.
6:06
Finally, I grabbed my coffee cup.
"1,2,3,4......" I started as I headed into my bedroom to get dressed for the day.
7:03
I got into my car, threw my bag into the passenger seat, and started the car.
Today is Sunday, I have no idea how fast but slow last week was. Fast in the sense of working on the case, but a slow in how I had to survive a hell of a week.
Let me give you a recap, after I went to Ibrahim, the old smelly therapist, I heading to the office. However, on my way there I called Luka.
It went something like this.
*
The phone rang, as I waited impatiently for him to pick up.
"Hadi hadi hadi*." I said as I tapped my fingers on the driving wheel while at traffic.
At last, he did pick up.
"LUKA, prepare those documents I am coming." I demanded through the speaker.
"NIIIKOOOOOLAAAAAAA GJOOOOKAAAAA." He shouted my name.
Oh boy here we go.
"I WILL KILL YOU. YOU ARE A DEAD MAN. NIKO. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO GET IBRAHIM TO KICK YOU OUT?! How did you make the chillest person on earth angry?! HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO SUCCEED IN THAT?!"
"AAAAHHHHH, YETER YA*. LUKA ABI*. YETER!!!! SUS TAMAM*. Prepare those documents for me hadi." I shouted back.
"ALLAH KAHRETSIN*. SABRET* SABRET. I WILL MAKE YOU PAY FOR THIS SHIT WAIT. YOU JUST WAIT ARROGANT OKUZ."
"As if you already haven't?!" I said back in a low voice half hoping he doesn't hear it.
"Ne*?! What did you just say?! Tamam ya tamam. I am calm now. But I will tell seni Hayat Teyze. I will make her throw a slipper at you then punish you by making you do house chores. Yes, like last time ironing my clothes and cleaning bathrooms." He said in a calm terrifying voice.
Luka calmer threats are scarier than his shouting because he ends up doing what he promised to do.
After that, I hanged up. I was terrified for my life, especially for Hayat Teyze flying slipper.

My phone rang returning me back to present moment.
7:15
Oh it was the man himself, Luka!
"Efendim*." I said when I picked up.
"Are you on your way?!" He asked.
This is Luka and I on "bad terms".
"Evet 15 minutes more and I will be here." I replied.
"Did you have your breakfast?!" He started questioningly.
"Evet*. Tabiki*. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." I answered sarcastically.
"Tamam, shut up. I don't want to hear your bad jokes and since we are in a fight I don't want to hear your voice at all." He groaned back.
"Ooooouucchhhh. You are attacking me at my house, Luka bey. I will tell benim Abi on you and he will show you how to mess around his Abi." I pressed back.
"Hahaha.' He laughed back, he is starting to warm up a little. 'Bi dakka*, why haven't you been going to the gym lately?!"
"Kapat* Luka, kapat. I will see you in the office." I said back.
Luka laughter filled my car, as he said "Kaç babim kaç*. But to where?! You always end up with me abim."
I finally got into my office's elevator. I straightened my tie then looked down at my shoes. Oh my shoelace is undone.
I bent down and started to tie them waiting for the elevator to stop at the 4th floor.
My office is in a huge fancy building. Yeah the rent is breaking my back, don't ask.
I tied them and smiled at the green snakes covering my grey socks. (SLYTHRIN)
I had a maroon suit on today with a pair of black shoes. (NOT REALLY SLYTHRIN, LOL)
I finally walked out the elevator into my office.
"Günaydın Nur,* how are you canım*?!" I inquired after my secretary.
"Günaydın Nikola bey. Ben iyiyim. Sen*?!" She smiled back.
"Iyiyim, iyi*. Nerde* Luka bey?!" I asked looking around, praying he is not here.
She laughed as she said "Luka bey went to get some papers. When this quarrel end?! Yoruldum* of being stuck between the two of you."
I put a hand on her shoulder and nodded my head with a little smile "You will get used to us in the end."
Nur only started working with me after I came back around 1.5 years now.
"I already am." She replied smiling.
That's why Luka took you in, your sunny spirits and smile.
I headed into my office as she followed me
"You have a visitor."
"Kim*?!" I asked stopping on my tracks and turning around to her.
"I don't know. She said you will want to meet her." Nur said confused.
I smirked as I pushed the door open. Nur gave me a puzzled look.
True, she was there.

True, she was there.
Janu got up from her seat as I walked in. She wore a smug grin on her face, her wild eyes we're fixed on her prey. In this case, that was me.
I crooked my head slightly as I said "To what do I owe the honour?!"
Nur stood behind me in silence.
"I thought I might pay back the visit." She said with a little shrug.
Boy, she is cute.
I bit down on my lip then flashed her a dimpled smile then asked "What shall we serve you?!"
"Turkish Kahve, handmade by you." She replied while raising her eyebrows.
I turned to Nur and said "Tea, Nur. And one coffee for me."
Janu looked back at me mouth agape.
"How dare you?!!!" She protested back.
I waited for Nur to leave the room then walked fast towards her.
She was started a bit, she didn't see that coming.
Sweet!
She looked down then back up at me trying to regain her shaken confidence.
"How could you chnage my coffee into tea?! I can choose what to drink." She argued back.
I took another step towards her, I was close, too close. I was breathing down her face.
"Efendim?!" I said back softly as I stared back into her eyes.
She swallowed hard and took a step back, her foot tumbling on the chair's leg. She fell back into the chair into a sitting position.
I bent down into her chair. I placed my hand on her chair's handle, bringing my face in level with hers.
"I won't touch your drink, if I didn't knew that you prefer tea later during the day. You drink coffee in the morning and another cup in the afternoon. Nasıl?!" I smirked back at her.
"BACK AWAY." She demanded.
"Tamam. Tamam." I said as backed.
"Anyways I am not here for any of this." She said as she pointed a disgusted finger at me.
I raised an eyebrow at her as I sat on the chair opposite to her.
"Why did you leave criminal law?! What happened?!" She asked.

"67,68,69,70......" I kept my count as I walked out of the shower after a long working day.
I sat on the edge of my bed putting my pajamas on. I pulled my shirt over my head.
My eyes getting caught on the bedside table.
I opened the drawer, digged deep into it, and finally pulled out the frame.
The glass covering the picture broke a few years back when I was moving houses.
Oh how I miss you.
I miss you.
I miss you.
I miss you.
I ran my hand on her smiling face. My tears streamed down my face and pitter-pattered on the broken glass covering blurring her smiling face out.
"I miss you." I whispered in hopes she would hear it somehow.
