Silhouettes: Chapter 41

I know I know I cannot justify my absence nor will I try doing that.
So let's dive back in. We have a lot to go through together with our Janu and Niko.
Welcome back I missed you all and our babies.
I would like to offer you the warmest seat in my mind and heart.
Welcome.

Chapter 41: Our Reflections

Janu POV:

I pulled the duvet over my head, annoyed by the unwelcomed sun.
I squeezed my eyes, in hopes I can get some more sleep. After multiple failed attempts, I reached for my phone on the bedside table. I kept running my hand around the table's surface, trying to find it.
But there was no sign of it.
I pushed and kicked the blankets away before finally sitting up.
I was fully awake now.
I grabbed a handful of tissues and blew my stuffed nose.
"Ouuff this flu will be the death of me." I mumbled to myself.

After washing up, I headed to the living room.
I stood, starring blankly before my front door. I fixated my eyes on how neatly my coat was hanging and my shoes tucked away.
I had no recollection of doing that last night,
"Eve" I called, thinking she might have been back home already.
I reached for my jacket's pocket to pull out my phone.
The notifications had a couple missed calls from Eve and texts. There was also one message from another contact.
I opened it and it read
"Gunaydin lazy head. Rest well this weekend and take your medications that I had to buy twice for you. Seriously, how many times are you planning to make me buy you the same medications?! ;-)
I will see you on Monday for our case. You better bring in your brains and best performance. And you are most welcome for last night.
Enjoy your weekend."
"AAAAHHHHH" I let out a little cry before covering my face with my hands embarrassed.

*
Monday morning:

I walked into my office holding my cup of coffee and with an air of confidence and a ready to kill attitude.
"Gunaydin" I said enthusiastically.
But instead of getting a reply from my secretary Mia, Niko passed right in front of me.
"Sen da Gunaydin. You are late." He announced as he headed into my office.
"Mia canim make me a strong black coffee please." He added before entering my office.
I looked at him then back at Mia confused "Ne?!"
"Hadi gel gel let's get started." He said energetically holding the door to my office open for me.
I looked at Mia, who was smiling shyly, on more time before walking into my office.
Once I walked in I found three boxes on my floor.
As I took my thick coat off, Niko was filling me on the details. He was already on the case discussing loopholes and how to fire back. I felt my head swarming with all the information he was telling me.
"Bedaka when did you come? Ne zaman? "
"Janu hanim we don't have time to sit and wonder. I gave you the weekend off, but that doesn't mean I was off myself. Also an intel told me that we will only have a month and a half before the next court date. So we better get to work fast."
"How...."
"I have my ways don't be asking too many questions. You will have an official notice by the end of this week, but that also means we would have wasted a week."
When I opened my mouth, Mia walked in with his coffee.
"Tesekkur ederim. Mia no calls and absolutely no interruptions for Janu hanim or I tamam."
Mia nodded back at him with a smile. The kind of smile I never saw her give me or anyone else really.
I furrowed my eyebrows at her, she shrugged back then she walked out fast.
"Bedaka who are you to come into my office and order around..."
"No time." he said as he took of his jacket and opened the first box revealing at least a dozen files.
I didn't say much as I followed him to take a file myself.

"Ouff" I sighed as I stretched out my arms. It was around 1 pm now and we have been working nonstop since 9 am. We have been basically reading and rereading the case and looking over similar cases. It is not an easy task and it will take us some time.
I dropped my hands into my lap exhausted and sat there looking at Niko from my chair.
He stood with his back leaning against the window, with his rolled up sleeves documents in one hand and the other turning pages.
I laid my head on my arms as I watched the sun beautifully illuminating him, while almost blinding me. He appeared so different now. There was this aura of seriousness surrounding him that I never saw before. His face wore a serious concentrating expression and his deep brown curls laid carefully on the top of his head.
'So this is working Niko'
"Ne guzel." I said under my breath.
"Affendim?" Niko said, his gaze shifting in my direction.
I quickly sat up startled. I started shifting the paper around my desk, acting like I didn't say a thing.
I looked at him sideways embarrassed after being caught red handed.
Niko was smiling at me. His smile widened revealing his teeth and deep dimples, before he finally bit down on his lip.
"Let's eat" he announced as he flipped the file with one hand to close it.
As soon as he walked out, I put my head on the desk hiding myself.
"Janu" Niko called me.
"Geldim" I responded.
I added in a whisper to myself "Once I find my dignity."

I walked out of my office to find Mia leaning on her hands and smiling flirtatiously at Niko.
"Nikola bey shall I get you lunch?!" she asked him in the sweetest voice ever. I felt like vomiting right then and there.
"No need Mia cem, Janu hanim and I are going to grab lunch ourselves." he replied with a confused expression.
"Just tell me if you need anything."
"Hadi Janu" Niko said looking at me with a little awkward smile.
I nodded with a little smile.
I glared at Mia whispering to her "You have a boyfriend."
She shrugged her shoulders before leaning back in her chair.
I shook my head before leaving.

We planned to have a quick lunch in the café near my office. But we were soon to be interrupted by Niko having to take a call, he literally had two bites before his phone rang. He excused himself to take it and left the table. On his way back to the table, his phone rang again. He gave me an apologetic smile mouthing to me to eat before disappearing to take it. I went through my phone for some time then I started to look around trying to locate him, but there was no sign of him.
'Who could it be calling him at such a time?'
I stayed there for a good 30 minutes, then I called the waiter to pack our leftover lunch so I could get back to my work. I took the paper bag and headed out.
As I reached for the metallic door handle, Niko showed up pulling the door in his direction.
"We can eat in the office." I announced holding up the paper bag to him.
He nodded back smiling at me, he motioned at me to step out.
I walked out the café and once again his phone rang.
"Ah" I let out an annoyed sigh.
"Efendim" he answered, looking at me.
He removed away and lowered it, then with his gaze fixated at me he called "Jan-Jaan" playfully.
I rolled my eyes at him, making him laugh. I felt some of the built up irritation in me dissolving away.
I walked ahead of him back to my office and he followed behind me.
I could hear his voice as I walked.
I looked sideways at the buildings in the city, they beheld my reflection then his. I smiled at our figures dancing across the mirroring skyscrapers.

The end for tonight.
See you all tomorrow. I hope.
This chapter is for that little heart that have been waiting patiently for this chapter. Thank you for waiting and understanding. I love you.
